John MacGavock Grider was an American pilot who served in Britain in WWI.  He kept a diary of his service.  Upon Grider's death in action in 1918, fellow aviator, Springs, published the diary as, "War Birds:  Diary Of An Unknown Aviator," in 1926.  An Army Air Corp training base in Pine Bluff, Arkansas was established in 1941 and named in honor of John MacGavock Grider.  Grider Field has since been returned to civilian service, and Grider's name has been retained.  The citizens of Pine Bluff have further honored their aviation war heros with a mural painted on a downtown building.  Charles H. Grider, III (That's me in the back of the AT6).
